I have a personal interest in oddities and the likely truths behind certain mythology. The Jackalope is a fantastical, interesting beast. There are many curiosity shops the capitalize on the mythose of the famed hare with antlers. There is something special in the pervasiveness of taxidermist creators who bring us the Frankenstein-ed jackrabbit with deer antlers affixed atop. While the hare with antelope horns is not disputed in it’s fictional origins, there is noted cases of hares with horn-like protrusion. The truth of these “Jackalope” provides us with almost a folktale come to life; the horns are in actuality mutated, tumorous growths that protrude out of the hare’s head. Gross, and magical.
